SIGHTSEEING

Sightseeing landmarks in Istanbul to celebrate its culture and history

NEIGHBORHOOD

Best spots in the neighborhood that are close by and easy to reach

European Side

The European Side is home to the Old City of Constantinople, home to most of the historical landmarks of Istanbul. The famous districts of Besiktas, Beyoglu and Sisli are also home to the posh district of Nisantasi, the famous Taksim Square and the amazing shores of Ortakoy, all within the European Side. Perhaps the more populous part of the city, it is also where the heart of business beats.

Sultanahmet Mosque

Sultanahmet Camii (The Blue Mosque) is one of the most important mosques of Istanbul and it should probably be the first place you should visit in Istanbul. Built during the period of Ottoman Sultan Ahmed the first, it is the only mosque in Turkey which has 6 minarets.

Hagia Sophia / Aya Sofya

Located just across the Blue Mosque. In the Byzantine times, it was used for the coronations of the Byzantine Emperors, but after the conquest of Istanbul, it was converted into a mosque. Today, it is used as both a museum and a mosque.

Dolmabahce Palace

Built during the regency of Sultan Abdulmacid in 1856, the palace is located on the Bosphorus shore near Besiktas. With 285 rooms and 6 hamams, it was home for 6 Ottoman Sultans. The palace is also where Mustafa Kemal Ataturk passed away.

Grand Bazaar (Kapali Carsi)

Once you visit the famous covered bazaar, you will never be able to forget the enchanting atmosphere. With 3600 shops and 14 entrances right at the heart of the old city, it's also the center of gold, jewelry, carpet, antiques and souvenir shopping in Istanbul.

Topkapi Palace

Built in the time of Mehmed the Conqueror, it has been the residence palace of the Ottoman Sultans until Dolmabahce was built along the Bosphorus. Today, it is considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Taksim / Istiklal Avenue

By far Istanbul’s most famous avenue, it's full of shops, restaurants, bars, clubs, cinemas and cafes. The pedestrian-only avenue of 1.4 km is lined with historical buildings from the late Ottoman period, a nostalgic tram and the world's oldest subway station, the Tunel (1875).

Asian Side

Home to the districts of Kadikoy, Uskudar, Kanlica and Kartal, the Asian Side (also called the Anatolian Side) is the predominantly residential side of Istanbul. It's also where PRINCESS RESIDENCE resides. For the past 20 years, business and financial districts have also started to appear in places such as Atasehir and Dudullu. The Asian Side remains the closest way to access the Princes' Islands.

Beylerbeyi Palace

The summer residence of the Ottoman sultans, it's located on the Asian shore of Bosphorus. Built in 1865, this French neo-baroque building has a traditional Ottoman house plan. Many world leaders of its time were hosted here as guests by Sultan Abdulaziz and his successors.

Kadikoy District & Moda

Central district of the Asian Side, it is where the heart of the artistic minds of Istanbul beats. Central Kadikoy is an interesting experience, with its crowded bazaar, interesting cafes, restaurants, bars, and ice cream parlors at the old town of Moda.

Princes' Islands (Adalar)

Just a 20 minute boat trip across the Marmara Sea from the Kartal Ferry Station, you can reach the amazing islands for an experience that really feels outside of Istanbul. The fresh pine tree smell in the air will take your mind away from all your troubles.

Camlica Hill

One of the highest hills of the Asian Side, it was used to be the place where all the major radio antennae were placed. Now, the hill has an amazing park with good restaurants, and interesting modern landmarks such as the Camlica Mosque and Camlica Tower.

Bosphorus Tour

This is definitely a must for those who want to explore the city via the Bosphorus. Right in front of the Kadikoy Metro Station, the boats operate very cheaply every hour, going along the lines of the Bosphorus, giving guests an amazing view of the city.

Neighborhood

In case you do not wish to leave the vicinity of PRINCESS RESIDENCE too much, there are many good alternatives to explore with a maximum of 30 minutes of a drive and even closer.

Bagdat Avenue (Bagdat Caddesi) / 12 km

Avenue with the most elegant shops, cafes, bistros and restaurants. The long walk can start from Bostanci up to Goztepe Park, or even further. Main centers of interest are Suadiye, Caddebostan and Erenkoy along the lines of the avenue.

Bostanci / 8 km

Central location at the start of the Baghdad Avenue, which is also the border of the Kadikoy District. It has many good fish restaurants, ferry to many different parts of Istanbul and also an amusement park in walking distance.

Pendik Yacht Marine / 8 km

Before, Kalamis used to be the biggest yacht marine of Istanbul, but since a couple of years, Pendik took its place. Amazing yachts, good restaurants and a very well laid out area is perfect to visit with family.

Kartal Port / 6 km

Kartal, one of the main districts of the Asian Side (also where PRINCESS RESIDENCE resides) is also home to one of the most fun central open markets, where locals frequently shop. Lined with restaurants, shops, cafes and bistros, it is also a good jumping point to the Prince's Islands.

Aydos Hill / 3 km

Very close to our Hotel, this isolated piece of heaven within the city has amazing views for good photography, small BBQ places, shops with local farm products and picnic areas.

Tuzla / 12 km

Many years ago, Tuzla used to be the summer getaway district for those who lived in central Istanbul. Nowadays, it has still retained its character, with very good restaurants lining the esplanade.
